Administration.
This includes working on reception, taking phone calls and meeting clients. It also covers general office duties such as filing, making up equipment orders, stuffing newsletters and entering data on the computer. We also need people to help clean and restore returned equipment and help with annual stock takes.
Business Skills.
Although Cam Sight is a charity, we have to operate on business lines and meet business standards. If you are an HR professional at a loose end or a finance officer with some time to spare or if you have any other business skill, we would very much appreciate your expert help and advice.
Craft Workshops.
Are you artistic or gifted at a craft? You might like to consider sharing your skill with our clients by running a workshop. Maybe you are a skilled gardener who can suggest ways in which visually impaired people can continue to garden safely and effectively. Or perhaps you can show a client how to make a pot or create a rag-rug. If you are willing to share your talents with our clients, please do get in touch.
D.I.Y and general Maintenance.
Could we call on you to fix a leaky roof, or a mend a broken fence? We can always make use of volunteers with valuable practical skills like plumbing or electrical know-how.
Event Organisation.
Cam Sight often organises fundraising concerts, excursions for clients and other events such as local conferences. If you have the organisational skills to arrange transport, venues, advertising and can remain calm while meeting deadlines then please give us a call.
Fundraising.
This can include helping with monthly table top sales, fetes, house to house collections and street collections. Alternatively, you might be the sort of person who can organise a local coffee morning in your own area, or perhaps you have experience of producing fundraising bids for grant making trusts. Whatever it is, we'd love to hear from you.
IT Skills.
If you are a website wizard or know all there is to know about database design and have some time to spare, we'd love to hear from you. As a small charity, we simply cannot afford to buy in this sort of expertise, so advice given on a voluntary basis is hugely valuable to us.
Ring around service.
If you are happy to chat to anyone and have good communication skills, you might like to consider joining our ring around team. This involves calling clients to make sure that they are OK and to find out if there's anything that they need from us. It's a really valuable service and can often alert Cam Sight to clients with difficulties that we need to address.
Speakers to give talks.
Do you represent a local organisation which may be of interest to our clients? We are often on the look-out for interesting speakers to visit our rural link groups, (talks involving tactile objects are especially enjoyable for our clients).
Transport and Drivers.
We always need drivers to deliver equipment or to transport clients to events or to Cam Sight's resources centre. In our village groups, we need drivers to take clients to and from the monthly rural link meetings.
Village Volunteers.
Do you live in Melbourn, Cottenham, Linton, Burwell, Bar Hill, Girton, Histon/ Impington, Soham, Haslingfield or Willingham? If you have time once a month to help organise a meeting or make tea or just chat with our rural link clients, please get in touch with us. We would also like to set up groups in Cherry Hinton, Comberton or Fulbourn and so would be very interested to hear from volunteers in these areas.
