Page Summary.
This page tells you exactly what your money can achieve for people with visual impairment. What follows is a list of the general values of donations that people make from £1 to £1500, with an example of what we might be able to provide with each different amount.
How far does my money go?
£1 buys several strips of plastic tactile 'bump-ons' which can help a visually impaired person to orient themselves once more around their kitchen and regain their independence.
£5 buys a liquid level indicator that ensures that a visually impaired person can safely and independently make a cup of coffee.
£15 buys a talking 'cube' clock.
£25 pays for a visit from a rehabilitation worker who can offer practical guidance and emotional support for visually impaired people in need of help and advice.
£100 pays for one of our rural link groups to come to Cambridge for a touch tour in a city museum or a walk with sighted guiders in the Botanic Gardens.
£250 allows us to hire a qualified trainer and run a workshop for a group of 20 visually impaired people in modified gardening skills which will enable them to enjoy their gardens once again.
£500 employs a part-time Access Technology worker for a month who can train blind and partially sighted people in the use of adaptive technology such as speaking or magnification software - which may help them back into employment.
£1000 covers the costs of four quarterly newsletters to keep in touch with our members whether in brailled, audio or large print format.
£1500 buys a CCTV device with a wide range of magnification options to enable even severely partially sighted people to make the most of their remaining vision and continue to read newspapers and books.
These are just a few examples of the practical ways in which we can use your financial support to support local people with sight loss. We need your financial support to extend our services to reach the many partially sighted and blind people in the region who are unregistered, who may live in isolated parts of the county and who may possibly have fallen through the net of what statutory services provide. We know that there are many people who have experienced severe sight loss but who suffer in silence, usually elderly and often alone.
Cam Sight, with your help, can alleviate that suffering and restore independence and a better quality of life to visually impaired people in our region.
